Unlike what's normal for Rufflet, Courage seems to run away at any opportunity and is in general terrified of the world around him. But Maka is fine with this, she's very patient with Courage and encourages him to take his time with getting stronger. Everything starts off small and weak, after all, if they keep trying they'll get stronger, things will definitely be the same for Courage. Maka, of course, named him after her favorite motto in life.

He seems to be getting better, she notices, day by day. He actually chased off offending Pokemon himself the other day.

Kimberly is the sweetest Pokemon one could hope to meet by total accident. Rather than attacking the moment Courage accidentally ran into a tree and shook her awake, she saw how terrified the Rufflet was and how eager Maka was to defend him from a potential enemy instead. She decided to stay on as a trainer and personal life coach to the duo and became...well, the first Pokemon Maka "caught" she supposes. Kimberly has a positive nature and is very tough, just isn't particularly book-smart, that's fine.

Morticia--named after a resident of Death City--is anything but the quiet and elegant lady. Not that Maka expected her to be. Tish has a rebellious streak and likes to cause trouble, she also sees herself as much tougher and more exceptional than other Zubat. Most of the time she hides in Maka's backpack to stay out of the sun, which she's fine with.

The very definition of a "gentle giant"--the moment he hatched Gandalf has been a quiet observer of the world around him and the people he now keeps company with. Maka dotes on him and he dotes on Maka right back, not viewing her as a mother as most hatched Pokemon might but instead a small one to be guardian to. When asleep he makes sure that he has some closeness to his trainer--head resting on her bed, acting as a pillow and blanket combo, etc. Gandalf also acts as a mediator between the stronger personalities of the crew, though Patti makes him a little nervous.

She is very responsible for being so young! Duchess wears a nurse cap and takes this job very seriously, wishing to attend to all who are injured. She worries especially for Maka who seems to have little to know self-preservation skills or much regard for her own health, she's almost like a mom reminding her when to eat and when to stop reading and go to bed ("you're going to strain your eyes that way!") Duchess traditionally wears a little nurse's cap.
